Punjab State Congress Chairman Nafjot Singh Sidhu ended his one-day hunger protest on Saturday after Ashish Mishra, son of Federal Minister Ajay Mishra’Teni’, reported to Uttar Pradesh police in connection with the Rahimpur Kheri violence Interrogation. Sidhu called for the arrest of Ashish Mishra and started a hunger strike on Friday at the Lakhimpur residence of the late reporter Raman Kashyap, one of eight people killed in the violence on October 3.

A day after the Supreme Court withdrew the UP government led by Yogi Adityanath to handle the case, the minister’s son appeared at the crime branch office in Lakhimpur Kheri. “This is a crime registered under section 302 (accusation of murder) of the Indian Penal Code,” the Supreme Court sued Harish Salve, a lawyer representing the UP government, at the suo motu hearing.

On Saturday, Mishra’s legal counsel, Awadesh Kumar, confirmed that his client would arrive before the police. After a while, the minister’s son reported to the police as scheduled. “We respect the notice and will cooperate with the investigation,” Kumar told the ANI news agency before appearing in court.
