The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Uttar Pradesh Police released six photos related to the violence that took place in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3, when a group of vehicles ran into a group of people, including a vehicle run by the Union Minister. A convoy owned by Ajay Mishra killed three people. Farm protesters killed four farmers and a reporter.
SIT has called on the public to identify the person in the photo. “In order to collect information about the suspects, we published six photos of the incident. We also published four mobile phone numbers through which people can provide information, including names and addresses,” said an official involved in the investigation.
“The name of the person who provides the detailed information will be kept confidential,” the official said, adding that SIT will also give rewards.
Three people — BJP workers Shubham Mishra and Shyam Sunder Nishad, and driver Hari Om Mishra — were allegedly killed by mobs after a vehicle ran over protesters. The mob also lit two SUVs, one of which belonged to MoS Mishra.
According to police sources, the suspect’s face can be seen in the photos and videos of the incident.
On Tuesday, SIT recorded the statements made by seven other people at the scene.
On Saturday, SIT has issued notices to 37 people asking them to record their statements; 15 people have done so in the past two days.
Earlier, SIT had asked people to provide videos and photos of the incident. According to sources, about 100 videos were sent to SIT.
At the same time, 10 people including Ashish Mishra, son of MoS Mishra, were arrested for the death of a farmer.
