The Grammy Awards 2022 televised gala began in Las Vegas on Sunday with a performance from retro group Silk Sonic and a stream of jokes from host Trevor Noah. Jon Batiste nabbed four trophies during the pre-telecast ceremony, while pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo scored one for the Best Pop Vocal Album ‘Sour’ and Kanye West received two. Bruno Mars nabbed Song of the Year for Leave the Door Open.
While India’s Falguni Shah won the Best Children’s Music Album award. Pakistan’s Arooj Aftab lifted the Best Global Performance trophy. It was their ever first trophies.
Doja Cat and SZA won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for Kiss Me More. BTS’ Butter was nominated in the category too.
Jazmine Sullivan’s “Heaux Tales” won best R&B album.
Amidst all the celebrations came a pre-taped message from the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy who had joined the ceremony with a video. He urged everyone to tell the truth about the war on social networks, on TV. He also urged the people to support his war ravaged country.
Indian music composer AR Rahman had also witnessed the ceremony.
