Last week, Maharashtra announced its decision to open schools. But Maharashtra is an exception. Not all states have decided to reopen schools. For example, schools in Delhi have been closed the longest as the capital region has also had to close due to pollution.

With schools closed for so long, learning has inevitably taken a hit. Dropout rates have risen in most states, with more children transferring to public schools, which have historically had lower learning rates than private schools.
