The role of Ludhiana Central Prison authorities has been scanned for the recent bombing of the court complex here. It is reported that the conspiracy of this incident was planned by the suspects detained in this prison using their mobile phones. According to reports, the drug lord Ranjit Singh Chita and the terrorist interrogator Sukhvind Singh Soni who were detained in the prison had talked with the bomb suspect Gagandip on the phone. Singh was a Punjab police officer who was fired and was killed in the incident.
The source said the police confiscated the mobile phones Cheeta and Soni used to communicate with Gagandeep and to facilitate his interaction with some pro-Khalistani activists.
Although approximately 150 mobile phones are seized from prisoners in Ludhiana Central Prison each year, the authorities can neither determine the prisoners’ access to mobile phones nor establish the condolences of prison officials.
Warden Balkar Singh said that prisoners may get cell phones with the help of outsiders who throw them off the prison border wall, or they may be condoned by corrupt prison officials. “Sony and Chita are being questioned, and the police will soon know how they got the phone,” he said.
In May of this year, Manvund Singh (a pseudonym Nikka Jatana) was facing 16 criminal cases in which a video of a hookah party went viral on the Internet.
According to reports, in June 2020, Nikka Jatana planned to use the telephone to carry out a murder attack on his hostile gangsters in prison. Later, he accepted responsibility for the attack through social media posts.
On April 28, 2019, STF arrested a female smuggler carrying 440 grams of heroin. Her son used a cell phone to manipulate the drug lord in prison.
