Maharashtra Minister Shambhuraj Desai said on Monday that police are investigating the role of BJP lawmaker Nitesh Rane in the December 18 attack on Sena official Santosh Parab. He added that Rane, who has been isolated from the outside world since Sunday, must come forward if he is not involved.

Desai said that so far, two people have been arrested in this case, and Parab also named Rane as the mastermind behind the attack. Desai added that the attacker gave Rane a name, calling it a “serious matter.” Rehn appeared before the police earlier as they were investigating the attack. He ignored the subsequent two police summons. “If he can’t be reached, it will cause suspicion.”

The ruling Shiv Sena lawmaker Vaibhav Naik met with the Sindhudurg police chief and asked for action against the persons involved. “The defendants have been arrested, but the people behind them must also be arrested. The police should not be under pressure from any federal minister,” Naik said, referring to Nitesh Rane’s father, Narayan Rane. Nitesh Rane could not comment.

Narayan Rane was arrested in August for remarks about the fight against Uddhav Thackeray, the chief minister of Maharashtra, and was later released on bail.
