On Friday, Lok Sabha Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury slammed the central government, saying “Made in India” should be called a “farce” as the trade deficit between India and China reflects India’s Continue to import more goods from neighboring countries.
He noted that the India-China trade deficit stands at $69 million.
“Make in India should be called a farce. The trade deficit between India and China is $69 million, which means we are importing more from China than exporting. If Make in India is successful, why should we rely on China and import on such a large scale material from China?” said Chowdhury.
Earlier on Friday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took aim at the central government on unemployment, saying “Made in India” was becoming “Buy from China”.
He claimed that under the BJP-led government, imports from China were at an all-time high as it “destroyed” small and medium industries and the unorganized sector that created jobs.
“JUMLA in India, JOBS in China! Modi’s government destroyed the unorganized sector and MSMEs that created the most jobs. Result: ‘Make in India’ is now ‘Buy from China’,” he tweeted.
The Wayanad MP also shared a 1.30-minute video in which the Modi government is said to have promised “Made in India” but it only “buys from China” and that imports from China have grown by a record 46% in 2021 is the highest ever.
In the video, he also shared footage of his parliamentary speech in which he attacked the Chinese government.
