West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has slammed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over the state’s Covid-19 mismanagement. Banerjee, speaking at a media briefing with Samajwadi Party chairman Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow, urged people not to waste their votes for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming UP parliamentary elections.
The UP chief minister was busy campaigning in West Bengal when a catastrophic second wave of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) hit the country last year, Trinamool Congress leaders have claimed.
“So you came to Bangladesh to beat us…where are you when people are dying from Covid-19,” she said.
Speaking about reports of bodies floating in the Ganges, Mamata Banerjee asked the Uttar Pradesh government if there were no forests where they could be cremated.
“We revere Mother Ganges. Here you throw corpses into the Ganges. Many corpses float to Bengal. We pick them up and cremate them respectfully. Don’t you have wood to cremate the corpses?” she asked.
Mamata Banerjee in Uttar Pradesh expressed support for SP-led coalition in parliamentary elections.
On Tuesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party released its UP poll manifesto after a two-day delay to pay tribute to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who died on Sunday morning. Banerjee said the Saffron Party was hearing today that she would make a manifesto in Lucknow.
“I don’t know if this is a manifesto or ‘Moneyfesto,’” she said.
TMC leaders have asked the BJP to seek forgiveness over the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, in which the son of a coalition minister was accused of running over protesting farmers.
“Do you have anything to be ashamed of? The farmers were protesting and your minister’s son ran over the farmers with a vehicle and killed them. At least seek forgiveness,” she said.
Akhilesh Yadav mocked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for canceling a sports rally in Bijnor due to the weather, which he said was not good for the BJP.
“BJP’s planes will not be landing at UP now,” he said.
