The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal won 134 of 144 electoral districts on Tuesday, sweeping the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) poll. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ranked second with three seats. Congress and the left each won two constituencies.
The People’s Party, which had five wards earlier, lost control of two wards. TMC won 92.36% of the voting rights.
Independent candidate Rubina Naaz (Rubina Naaz) won from District 135 and is the wife of the local TMC leader. She announced that she would join TMC immediately. Two other independent candidates, Purbasha Naskar and Ayesha Kaniz, said that they are also willing to join TMC. “If we are with the ruling party, we can do more work for the people,” said Kaniz, wife of Irfan Ali Taaj, the dissident leader of TMC.
