Mamata to visit New Delhi today, likely to meet PM Modi, Opposition leaders

West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to arrive in New Delhi on Monday for a four-day visit and is expected to meet with opposition party leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“She is likely to visit a number of political leaders. She may also meet with Modi later this week. Some issues may be discussed, including expanding the jurisdiction of the BSF (Border Security Forces in states including Bangladesh), “A Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader who asked not to be named said.

This visit is believed to be part of her efforts to strengthen opposition to the Bharatiya Janata Party before the 2024 national election. In July last year, she visited Delhi for the first time after TMC regained power in West Bengal. Banerjee’s new visit took place a few days before the winter meeting of Parliament was scheduled to begin on November 29. The TMC separately plans to hold a protest in Delhi on Monday to protest the arrest of the party’s youth leader Sayani Ghosh from West Bengal in Agatara on Sunday by the Tripura police.

The TMC delegation may also meet with President Ramnat Kovind on Monday to discuss the ongoing political violence in Tripura.
