Man Without Mask Drags Pune Traffic Cop On Car Bonnet To Evade Fine: Police

A traffic cop was delayed the hat of a vehicle for just about a kilometer on a bustling street in Chinchwad region close to Pune after he attempted to stop the vehicle as its driver and another inhabitant were discovered not wearing face veils in the midst of the pandemic, a police official said on Friday.

The occurrence happened on Thursday night and the traffic constable, Abasaheb Sawant, endured a leg injury, he said.

The driver, distinguished as Yuvraj Hanuvate (49), has been captured, police said.

“Abasaheb Sawant and other traffic police work force were posted at the Ahimsa Chowk in Chinchwad on Thursday night. They were gathering fines from individuals who were discovered driving or riding without a face cover and for other traffic-related offenses,” the authority from Chinchwad police headquarters said.

“Around then, Mr Sawant and his associates discovered Hanuvate driving the vehicle without a face veil. There was another inhabitant in the vehicle, who was likewise without a cover. The police officers flagged Hanuvate to stop the vehicle. Be that as it may, rather than halting, the blamed sped up for the vehicle trying to get away,” he said.

“As Mr Sawant was remaining before the vehicle, he fell on its cap and clung on to it. The denounced didn’t stop the vehicle and continued driving with Abasaheb Sawant on the cap for some separation,” he added.

Conversing with news office PTI, Mr Sawant said the denounced continued driving the vehicle with him on the hat for almost one kilometer, prior to being halted by others out and about.

“During the occurrence, I got a physical issue to my leg as it went under the wheel,” he added.

Chinchwad police have charged and captured Hanuvate, an inhabitant of Pimple Nilakh territory, under pertinent segments of the Indian Penal Code for “endeavor to kill”, “attack or criminal power to dissuade a community worker from release of his obligation”, “willfully making unfortunate hurt discourage local official from obligation” and applicable segments of the Motor Vehicle Act.
