A Mumbai police officer who served as actor Amitabh Bachchan’s bodyguard until August 2021 has been suspended for alleged misconduct and breach of service codes, an official said on Wednesday.
He said an order to suspend Constable Jitendra Shinde was issued on Tuesday and a departmental investigation had been launched against him. Sind had earlier served in the protection and security division of the Mumbai police. He worked as Amitabh Bachchan’s bodyguard from 2015 until August 2021, when he was shunted by Mumbai police chief Hemant Nagrale for allegedly earning 1.5 billion rupees a year. After August 2021, Shinde was posted to the DB Mar Police Station in Mumbai.
When asked about the exact reason for Jitendra’s suspension, a senior Mumbai police officer said the officer had made at least four trips to Dubai and Singapore without informing his superiors.
He said that under the rules of service, he should get permission from his elders to travel abroad. Jitendra also opened a security agency in his wife’s name to provide security for the Bachchan family, but the transaction about the fee was reflected in his bank account, not his wife’s, the official said.
On the surface, Jitendra also bought some properties, he added, which he did not disclose. The official added that following the suspension of Shinde, the Mumbai police chief formed an investigative committee headed by police chief (south) Dilip Sawant.
Amitabh was given a Category X security, with four constables securing him in two shifts.
