An army notice on Monday stated that an Indian army investigation team will investigate an army shooting that killed 13 civilians in Nagaland earlier this month. The team will visit the scene of the incident in Meng County on Wednesday.
In a botched operation, 13 civilians were killed by 21 Bharat Special Forces of the Indian Army in Tiru-Oting area of Mun County, Nagaland on December 4th, and another civilian was killed on December 5th. Mengzhen was killed by security forces.
After a large-scale protest in Nagaland State, Naga State organized a protest to seek a fair investigation and punish those responsible, and the army set up an investigative court to investigate the incident. “The investigation team solicits from the general public any major information related to the incident (not forwarded or from a secondary source). Anyone who has such information and wants to invalidate it before the investigation is required to do so at the Tizit Police Station,” the notice Say.
It added that any original information, photos or videos related to the incident (not forwarded or from a second source) can also be shared with the inquiry team via phone calls, text messages or Whatsapp Messenger +916033924571.
“This information can also be personally shared with the investigation team at the Dinjan military station in Assam. The original documents and audiovisual recordings will be collected from the source in accordance with due legal procedures,” it added.
In a statement on Sunday, the Army’s 3rd Corps, headquartered in Bondi Mapur, Nagaland, stated that the Army’s investigation “is proceeding rapidly and every effort is being made to conclude the investigation as soon as possible.”
“The Indian Army is fully cooperating with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation ordered by the Nagaland State government and sharing the required details in a timely manner… We assure you that we will take action in accordance with the law to bring justice to everyone,” It added.
