What is a solar flare? They are powerful bursts of energy that often affect radio communications, power grids, navigation signals, and pose a risk to spacecraft and astronauts.
Basically, they’re huge releases of electromagnetic radiation that travel across the solar system at the speed of light, which is why it can destroy so much on Earth.

In short, they are dangerous even from nearly 100 million miles away. This particular flare is classified as an intermediate-level flare, specifically an M5.5-class flare.
