The National Roads Authority of India has issued a tender for the Delhi-Ludhiana-Amritsar-Amritsar-Katra highway from Balsua in Pathankot district in Punjab to Satwari to the fourth Tawi bridge in the city from Jammu.
The stretch is 97 km long and the estimated cost is Rs 5,495 crore. Construction is expected to be completed by 2024.
The distance between Delhi and Amritsar / Katra will be reduced by about 40 kilometers from the highway and passengers will be allowed to travel from Delhi to Katra within six and a half hours and from Delhi to Amritsar within four. at half-past four.
It provides the smallest connectivity not only to the religious cities of Katra and Amritsar but also to the economic and industrial centers of Haryana, Ambala, Sangrur, Ludhiana, Kapurthala, Union territory of Chandigarh, Mohali, Patiala, Jalandhar, Punjab, and Kathua.
