No MLA’s kin will get chairmanship if I remain Punjab Congress chief: Sidhu

Punjab Congress Committee (PCC) chairman Navjot Singh Sidhu has made a veiled attack on former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for his tenure in office Handing the government job to the incumbent MLA’s son, he said the MLA’s son would not be chairman if he continued to serve as PCC chairman, adding that if that happened, he would resign.

“I promise that if I remain PCC chairman, the son of the MLA will not get the chairmanship, the workers will get the chairmanship…will resign on the day the privileged person gets the chairmanship,” Sidhu said.

Sidhu made the remarks at a Ludhiana rally where Rahul Gandhi declared current Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi the leader of the ensuing Punjab polls. Representative of the Chief Minister of Parliament.

The Punjab Cabinet led by Amarinder Singh appointed Arjun Partap Singh Bajwa, son of Qadian MLA Fateh Jung Singh Bajwa, as Inspector of Punjab Police (Group B) in June 2021 and Bhisham Pandey, son of Ludhiana MLA Rakesh Pandey, as Naib Tehsildar.

Amarinder Singh resigned from Congress after months of feuding with Sidhu and formed his own party, the Punjab Lok Congress.

The Punjab Lok Congress Party is allying with the BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) for the election.

Punjab will go to the polls on February 14 and the vote count will take place on March 10.
