On Sunday, the BJP MLA from Keonjhar and Mohan Majhi, the opposition chief whip in the parliament, were not injured after unidentified gangsters dropped crude bombs on his car.
The incident occurred around 11:50 am when he returned after attending a public meeting in Mandua, on the outskirts of Keonjhar town. Two gangsters on motorcycles threw two bombs on Maggie’s vehicle, who returned after attending a public meeting. BJP activists claimed that the attack was carried out by local BJD youth leaders and blocked traffic on the -49 National Highway at Gandhi Chhak in Keonjhar, demanding that the criminals be arrested immediately.
The MLA car was partially damaged in the incident. Related complaints have been filed at Keonjhar Town Police Station. Majhi said that when he returned after attending the meeting, the gangster caught up with his car and dropped a bomb. He said these young people threw a bomb on his car, then ran away on bicycles, and then returned with a second bomb. Majhi further said that although his car driver chased the criminals some distance, they managed to escape the scene.
The chief whip of the opposition party said: “My personal guards tried to hunt down the gangsters, but they fled to the train station. Although they chased them, they could not be caught because of the narrow road.” MLA’s Personal Security Officer (PSO) Bidyadhar Mahanta told the media. When they saw two young people standing next to a bicycle, they were about to reach the main road. “Later, one of them dropped a bomb.
Although I tried to chase them, they fled the scene,” he said. On January 17, 2021, Niranjan Patnaik, chairman of the Orissa State Congress Committee (PCC), was also attacked near Kashipur near the town police station.
