Odisha lifts night curfew as Covid cases drop

According to official orders, Odisha lifted its curfew on Friday as the Covid-19 situation in the state improved.

From 10pm to 5am, curfews were imposed in all urban areas of the state, including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri, and all non-essential travel was restricted. It was implemented on January 31 amid a surge in Covid-19 cases.

“Beginning February 18, 2022, curfews will be lifted/repeated in all urban areas of the state,” the order from the Office of the Special Relief Commissioner said.

“Faced with the continued decline in the number of Covid-19 cases in the state, the government has decided to further ease restrictions,” an official said.

Odisha on Friday reported 671 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total to 12,81,455. Among the new patients were 131 children.

The daily positivity rate was 1.14%, with 15 additional deaths. Among the patients who died in the past 24 hours were two boys aged 3 and 13.

Odisha has reported 8,976 deaths so far.

The state currently has 7,855 active cases. Sundergarh district reported the highest number of new cases at 105, followed by Khurda (103) and Jajpur (47).

In the past 24 hours, 1,465 patients recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 12,64,571.
