After the state legislature aroused controversy over his rape remarks, senior congressional leader and former Karnataka Speaker Ramesh Kumar apologized on social media and said he had no intention of underestimating the crime. The senior leader of Congress said that this is impromptu speech. “I will choose my words carefully in the future!” He tweeted. “I am against’rape’ at today’s rally!” Ramesh Kumar wrote on Twitter: “There is a saying that if rape is inevitable, then lie down and enjoy. This is exactly where you are. Situation,” the congressman said.

Although the Congress MLA apologized for anger, this is not the first time Ramesh Kumar has made such an insensitive comment. When he was the spokesperson of the Karnataka State Assembly, he once compared himself to a rape survivor.

The recent rape comments came as Speaker Vishweshwara Hedge Kageri faced a commotion in Parliament as members of Parliament asked for time to comment on rain-related damage in his electoral district. The speaker asked if every member wanted to allocate time, how would he preside over the meeting. By then, about 25 members have spoken. “I have to enjoy this situation and say’yes, yes’. I should give up trying to control the situation and proceed in a systematic way,” said the speaker, and Ramesh Kumar said, “Look, there is a saying– When rape is inevitable, lie down and enjoy it. This is where you are.”
