On Thursday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted Sonia Gandhi, the Interim President of Parliament, on the 75th birthday. The Prime Minister officially extended his best wishes to Congress leaders on Twitter and prayed for her longevity and good health. Along with Modi, several other leaders—from BJP staff to the chief ministers of states that cross party lines—also expressed their wishes to the 75-year-old congressional chairman.

“My best wishes to Smt. Sonia Gandhi Ji’s birthday. Pray for her longevity and health,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted on the official account of the Weibo website. However, Sonia Gandhi, who is 75 years old today, appealed to party workers not to celebrate the Prime Minister’s birthday after her death. According to party sources quoted by the ANI news agency, General Bipin Rawat of the Defense Staff (CDS) was injured in an IAF helicopter crash on Wednesday.

It is worth noting that Sonia Gandhi did not celebrate her birthday last year to support farmers’ protests against the agricultural law (now repealed) and the country’s Covid-19 situation.
