Federal Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh said there were more than 50 start-ups in the space sector, about 10 of which were funded by more than £50 million or more.

At a science ministry meeting, he added that they are also working on software solutions for space debris management. Since the space sector opened up to the private sector, innovative start-ups are popping up to explore untapped potential, Singh said.

In the past four months, 11 other states, including Sikkim, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh, have prepared their tech policies, the minister said. He added that EU states and territories were being asked to identify areas where technological interventions could help solve problems for a more comfortable life.

Singh said Jammu and Kashmir would get the latest snow removal technology, while Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu would get help with beach restoration and renovation. He added that, with the help of the Capacity Building Committee, a template has also been prepared to initiate thematic consultations between the centre and states on specific site-to-site needs.

Singh said the first round of meetings between national science departments and centers has been completed. He added that state requirements for scientific solutions will be collated. Different states have different capabilities, but all are willing to work with the center in areas such as R&D and innovation, Singh said.
