Union Minister Nisith Pramanik on Tuesday said that the people of North Bengal have faced favoritism for decades, so it is they who will decide whether they want a separate state or not.
Earlier, BJP leader John Barla had demanded the creation of a separate state or union territory by merging the districts of North Bengal.
In the March–April assembly elections, the BJP won 30 of the 54 seats in north Bengal districts as the TMC returned to power in the state. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP got 18 out of 42 seats in the state.
