India abstained from voting on the United Nations General Assembly resolution on Wednesday, the third time in a week. The United States has been working towards persuading India to vote with other countries in the United National General Assembly against Russia’s aggression on Ukraine. “We have seen a number of abstentions”, top US diplomat Donald Lu said speaking to the members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
India has called for all states to abide by UN Charter to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other states. This is a very clear reference to Russia’s violation of UN Charter and Ukraine’s sovereignty, Lu said. “We have seen an interesting evolution in past couple of days,” Lu added.
