Pramod Sawant sworn in as Goa’s chief minister for a second straight term. Sawant was sworn in 18 days after the poll results were announced in the coastal state. The grand oath event – attended by PM Narendra Modi – turned out to be another show of strength for the BJP.
The chief ministers of the BJP-ruled states of Uttarakhand, Haryana, Karnataka and Karnataka were also invited. Pushkar Singh Dhami, Manohar Lal Khattar and Basavaraj Bommai were among those in attendance at the event in New Delhi.
The security was tightened in the state as thousands of cops were deployed to ensure the high-level meeting between politicians and party leaders.
Goa is one of the smallest states in India and crucial for the tourism sector. It is the last of five states to see the chief minister’s swearing in after assembly elections. The BJP won four of the five states – Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Uttarakhand and Goa.
The party is set to form a government with the support of the MGP, which fought with Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress.
