Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kedarnath in Uttarakhand on Friday, where he plans to inaugurate the rebuilt samadhi sthal of Shri Adi Shankaracharya and lay the cornerstones for the reconstruction project. Prime Minister Modi will also unveil a magnificent 12-foot statue of Guru Shankaracharya, the eighth-century seer who acquired Moksha at Kedarnath.
According to officials, the statue weighs 35 tons and was made of chlorite schist, a sculptor based in Mysore, which is a kind of rock that can withstand rain, sunlight and harsh weather. The original statue of Adi Guru Shankaracharya samadhi was washed away in the 2013 flood. It was built by excavating land behind the Kedarnath Temple and in the middle of the Samadhi area. The unveiling ceremony of the statue will be broadcast live in 12 jyotirlingas, four Shankaracharya mutts (monasteries), his birthplace and several famous temples across the country. “We will all welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Earlier, Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj stated that the reconstruction of Kedarnath would be impossible without PM Modi’s vision. “We will welcome him here soon. He will also start the second phase of the project in Kedarnath,” he said.
Tourism Minister Dilip Jawalkar also thanked the Prime Minister for his generous efforts to rebuild Samadhi of Shankaracharya. “The Samadhi of Shankaracharya was destroyed in the flash flood that hit the Kedarnath area in 2013. I want to thank PM Narendra Modi and Jindal Steel Works for their generous efforts to rebuild the monument,” Jawalkar said.
