According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 16th East Asia Summit to be held on Wednesday, which will discuss issues of regional and international interests.
PMO further stated that concerns about maritime security and terrorism will also be discussed during the summit. The East Asia Summit is the leading leader-led forum in the Indo-Pacific region. Since its establishment in 2005, it has played an important role in the strategic and geopolitical evolution of East Asia.
According to the news released by the PMO, in addition to the 10 ASEAN member states, the East Asia Summit also includes India, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Russia. India is committed to strengthening the East Asia Summit to make it more effective in responding to contemporary challenges.
It is also an important platform for further promoting practical cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region based on the integration of the ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific (AOIP) and the Indo-Pacific Ocean’s Initiative (IPOI).
