The Uttar Pradesh District Court has issued a notice to the Prime Minister’s Office over the Indian Army uniform worn by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Kashmir last year. The opinion was made following a request to Prayagraj’s court, which stated that wearing clothing used by soldiers, sailors or pilots or carrying tokens is an offence punishable under Section 140 of the Indian Penal Code.

According to a report by Dainik Bhaskar, District Judge Nalin Kumar Srivastava issued a notice to hear arguments from the defence, Rakesh Nath Pandey, under Section 156(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code (which empowers magistrates to order investigations of identifiable offences).

Pandey first made the application in December last year when Chief Justice Harendra Nath rejected the application, saying the matter was outside the jurisdiction of the court and the matter could be heard by a magistrate having jurisdiction.

Pandey challenged the order before the district judge, who has now given notice to the PMO. The court will now hear the case on March 2.

Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Diwali with soldiers in the Nowshera region of Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing soldiers on the occasion of Nowshera Diwali, the Prime Minister highlighted the government’s efforts to enhance indigenous capabilities, noting that modern border infrastructure has been established to enhance connectivity and troop deployment.

“I spend every Diwali with the soldiers guarding the border. Today, I bring the blessings of millions of Indians to the soldiers here,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

Our soldiers are “suraksha kawach” of “Maa Bharti”. It is because of you that people in our country can sleep soundly and celebrate the holidays with happiness,” he added.
