The award was instituted in the memory and honour of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar who passed away at the age of 92. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to be honoured with the first Lata Deenanath Mangeshkarskar Award.
The award will be given every year to an individual who has made exemplary contributions to the nation, its people and society.
“He is one of the greatest leaders our great nation has seen in its glorious history of thousands of years,” the statement read.
