According to her complaint, she began communicating with a British civil engineer’s profile on the marriage website in the second week of December last year.

Over the next few days, the complainant communicated with the man via phone and video chat. He told her that he planned to go back to India to settle down and proposed to her. He said he was sending his luggage separately and that he himself would travel later. In the next few days, a large amount of money was taken from her for various untrue reasons such as luggage clearance, various handling fees, various taxes and fees. She was required to make up to 15 transfers worth a total of Rs 6.199 lakh to various bank accounts. She contacted Pimpri Chinchwad police after realising she had been duped. After preliminary verification, an FIR on impersonation and cheating under the relevant section of the Information Technology Act and the IPC section was registered at Wakad Police Station on Saturday.
