Punjab ADGP SK Asthana removed as Bureau of Investigation head

The Chief of Police of Punjab Province (ADGP) SK Asthana was removed from the post of head of the Bureau of Investigation (BoI) on Saturday and replaced by B Chandra Sekhar.

Asana, who is on sick leave, recently had a relationship with the Punjab provincial government because he refused to book the former Akali minister Bikram Singh Majithia in a drug case. He wrote a letter to the Punjab Police Chief stating that he could not file a lawsuit against Majithia on the grounds of legal issues. The letter was widely shared on social media and embarrassed the Charanjit Singh Channi government. After registering the case under the order of the Chief Minister of Punjab, the cybercrime department is already investigating the leak.

Elenchezian Khanna SSP, Chief of Police Garg Patiala

In a major reorganization under the direction of the Election Committee before the vote in Parliament, the state government transferred six senior superintendents (SSP). The Punjab police officer who served as the district police chief has been replaced by the Indian police service. J Elenchezian is the new Khanna SSP, Sandeep Garg is the new Patiala SSP, replacing Harcharan Singh Bhullar, who will become the additional inspector general (AIG), Intelligence. Charanjit Singh will become the new Moga SSP, replacing SS Mand. Deepak Pareek has been released as Mansa SSP. Mand will be AIG, the Criminal Investigation Bureau.

The government also appointed Dayama Harish Om Parkash as Kapurthala SSP, replacing Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, who will now become AIG, in charge of counterintelligence. Gaurav Toora has been appointed as the new Batala SSP, replacing Mukhwinder Singh who has been appointed as AIG, NRI Affairs, Amritsar.
