Under the leadership of interim President Sonia Gandhi, the Congress will hold a ‘Chintan Shivir’ in Udaipur to discuss party organisation and formulate a strategy to challenge the BJP in the upcoming 2024 General Elections.

At the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on March 14, top leaders demanded that Rahul Gandhi take over as President of the Congress.

According to sources, senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury advised Wayanad MP to accept the position of President during the meeting.

According to additional sources, “Rahul is willing to take the job. Following that, a proposal was made at the meeting to hold the presidential election in August-September. However, it was decided that the current process could not be postponed.”

Following the defeat in 2019, Rahul Gandhi resigned as Congress president, and Sonia Gandhi assumed the role of interim president.

Discussions and important decisions about the post of Congress president are likely to take place during the next Chintan Shivir, which will be held in Udaipur.

The Chintan Shivir is being held in the aftermath of the party’s humiliation in state assembly elections earlier this year. In the last eight years, the party has suffered several electoral losses. A number of prominent members of Congress have resigned.

The next Chintan Shivir will begin with Sonia Gandhi’s address to the people on May 13 and end with Rahul Gandhi’s speech on May 14.
