Hours after news of the killing of civilians by security forces came from Nagaland, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee requested a thorough investigation of the incident in the border area of Myanmar.

Late Saturday, at least six daily-paid workers were shot and killed by security forces during a counter-insurgency operation between Otin and Tiru villages in Meng County, causing tensions in Nagaland to increase. Allegedly, the vehicle was shot by military personnel who launched operations against the Yongang faction militants of the banned organization NSCN (K) in the area. After the shooting, angry villagers arrived at the scene and reportedly set up two vehicles belonging to the security forces on fire. The troops fired at the villagers to “control the situation”, killing at least 7 people and 1 security guard.

According to local residents, 9 villagers were injured in the second shooting. “#Nagaland comes with worrying news. I express my deep condolences to the families of the victims. I pray that the injured will recover soon. We must ensure that the incident is thoroughly investigated and that all victims receive justice!” Banerjee tweeted.
