The railway created a new record on Thursday by driving a 2.8 km long freight train. The longest train in the history of Indian Railways was named Sheshnag. A total of 251 empty compartments of four racks and four electric locomotives were installed to pull them.

As part of this initiative of Nagpur Division of South East Central Railway, ‘Sheshnag’ was dispatched from Parmalkasa station at 12:20 pm. Three racks with 58 compartments and one rack comprising 59 compartments were added. Officials said that such an initiative will save time in the movement of goods trains.

Earlier, Indian Railways has operated ‘Super Anaconda’ between Bilaspur to Chakradharpur Division. The South East Central Railway did this on 30 June by adding three freight trains. These trains were loaded with 1,500 tonnes of material.

Three 6,000 hp electric locomotives were mounted to pull out its 177 bogies. In April this year, the railway operated a two-kilometer long ‘Anakonda’ train connecting three freight trains between Bhilai to Korba. This technique is called the Distributed Control System (DPCS), in which the first engine controls the entire train. The rest of the engines work to pull the bogies.
