The Railway Coronavirus is churning out passenger coaches and cabins to keep the infected isolated. Sources gave this information on Wednesday. It is noteworthy that Indian Railways operates 13,523 passenger trains daily but due to Coronavirus, all passenger services have been postponed till 14 April.
Sources said that through video conferencing on Wednesday with Railway Minister Chairman VK Yadav, General Manager of all zones and managers of Division Railways on the proposal to use empty compartments and cabins as ICU for Coronavirus patients. It was discussed in the meeting held.
Sources said the idea came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in the Cabinet meeting that he should work on innovative measures to expand medical facilities due to Coronavirus.
He informed that these coaches and cabins can be used as a mobile hospital, which will have counseling rooms, medical stores, intensive care rooms, and kitchen facilities. Sources said that the railways have a wide network across the country and the hospital set up in the train can be set up in areas where the number of infected people is high and there is not enough medical facility.
He informed that the Rail Cart production units can start production by changing the coaches suited to the medical facility. Sources said the railways have an accident relief medical device vehicle (ARME) or rail ambulance that can be used for coronavirus patients. ARME is commonly used to treat passengers injured during a rail accident.
