Railways have made a big announcement regarding private trains. The Railway Board said that from the year 2023, private trains in the country will run on the track. However, the railways will decide its fare. Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav said on Thursday that by February or April next year, we will open the tender. And we are hoping that by 2023 private trains will start running.
The chairman of the Railway Board said that private companies will also have to pay some part of the revenue. The bidder with the highest share will get the contract. He said that we will recover our expenses through transportation charges in locomotives.
He said that we have also imposed energy tariffs so that we can provide more energy-efficient trains. He said that rail coaches will be made in India, along with guards and drivers will also be given by Indian Railways. Vinod Kumar Yadav said that private participation in passenger train operation will be only 5 percent of the total railway operation. He said that private trains are likely to run from April 2023. All coaches will be purchased under the Make in India policy.
The chairman of the Railway Board said that if the standards of performance are not followed by private companies in the operation of trains, then they will be fined. Along with this, Yadav said that along with participation, trains will also have to be brought to private companies and their care will also be responsible for them.
This is the first step to be taken for private investment to run passenger trains on the rail network of Indian Railways. It was started by the Indian Railways Food and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) last year with the Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express.
Currently, IRCTC operates three trains, which include Kashi-Mahakal Express, Lucknow-New Delhi Tejas, and Ahmedabad-Mumbai Tejas Express on Varanasi-Indore route.
