Reliance launched its first phone, the JioPhone Next, in partnership with Google in 2021. The smartphone launched on Diwali is a budget device that is priced at Rs 64,999 upfront and Rs 1,999 with EMI options. There is also a handling fee of 501 rupees. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 chipset, the JioPhone Next features a 5.5-inch display, 13MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, dedicated SD card and 3.5mm audio jack. It runs on Android-based Google’s Pragati OS. Users have access to the Play Store and the Jio suite of apps.
Jio’s 5G-enabled phones are likely to be priced around Rs 10,000 and offer users a 5G plan. Pricing may be similar to JioPhone Next, with one upfront cost and the other with EMI. The plan may be similar to the current plan offered by JioPhone Next, the starting tier may be different. Reliance recently said that it has plans to offer 5G connectivity in 1,000 cities in India.
As for hardware specs, the phone is said to come with “a 5000mAh battery that charges up to 18W via USB-C, and a SIM card tray that can hold two SIM cards and a microSD card.” The JioPhone 5G may feature the same camera Specifications: 13MP shooter on the back, 8MP module on the front. The display is expected to be larger, a 6.5-inch IPS LCD HD+ (1600 x 720).
