According to the Reporters Without Borders (RSF), a Paris-based watchdog, 49 journalists worldwide were killed this year, the lowest in the last 16 years. Most of the journalists died while covering conflicts in Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen. According to the organization, the number of detained journalists increased by 12% over the previous year.
