Republic Day 2022: PM Modi pays tribute to fallen heroes at National War Memorial

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the National War Memorial (NWM) on Wednesday morning to officially kick off the 73rd Republic Day. At NWM, the Prime Minister paid tribute to fallen heroes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi observed a two-minute silence to commemorate the supreme sacrifices made by brave people to protect the country, and signed the visitor’s register at the memorial.

Prime Minister Modi paid his respects in a solemn ceremony along with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and three service chiefs.

The prime minister then arrived in Rajpat for the Republic Day parade. President Ram Nath Kovind will unfold the flag, followed by the national anthem and a loud 21-gun salute. The parade begins with a salute to President Kovind.

Jammu and Kashmir police ASI Babram was posthumously awarded Ashok Chakra for killing three terrorists in an anti-terrorist operation in Srinagar in August 2020 for ” Demonstrated heroism and exemplary raw courage”.

Before the parade, his wife Rina Rani and son Manik received the certificate from President Kovind.

This year’s parade showcased India’s military might and cultural diversity and included many unique initiatives to celebrate the 75th anniversary of independence as part of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”.
