In a departure from tradition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to the martyred soldiers at the National War Memorial instead of Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate ahead of the 71st Republic Day parade. The memorial was inaugurated by the Prime Minister on 25 February last year. The names of 25,942 jawans have been inscribed on the War Memorial.
