On Thursday, the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) was named the ‘Best Integrated Steel Plant’ at the SAIL Corporate Awards for Excellence – 2020/21. Soma Mondal, chairman of the Steel Authority of India Limited, presented the award (SAIL).
Atanu Bhowmick, director in-charge of RSP, received it along with BR Babu, chief general manager (blast furnace), and I Rajan, chief general manager (traffic, with additional responsibility for utilities and the environment), according to a statement.
Mondal congratulated RSP on winning the award and encouraged it to improve its overall performance in order to carve out a successful path.
Bhowmick said the award was dedicated to every Rourkela Steel Plant employee and that the company would continue on its path to becoming India’s best steel plant.
The plant was awarded the award for its “exceptional performance during the Covid-19 pandemic”.
In November last year, the plant won the Energy Conservation Award in the Eastern region’s ENCON Award 2021 competition.
