IDC reported that despite the overall decline in shipments, Samsung continued to dominate the global smartphone market in the third quarter. It is said that the South Korean technology giant shipped 69 million mobile phones in the third quarter to secure a 20.8% market share. New data shows that global smartphone shipments fell by 6.7% year-on-year.

Although Samsung has the largest market share, its shipments have fallen by 14.2% year-on-year. According to reports, Apple surpassed Xiaomi to occupy the second place in the global smartphone market and witnessed the largest year-on-year growth of 20.8%. IDC’s third quarter report on global smartphone shipments in 2021 shows that the double-digit growth at the beginning of the quarter has now ended. This decline is mainly due to the supply chain and component shortages faced by the industry.

Samsung’s shipments dropped from 80.4 million units in the third quarter of 2020 to 60.9 million units in the third quarter of 2021. Its market share dropped from 22.7% to 20.8% year-on-year, and its year-on-year growth dropped by 14.2%. Xiaomi slipped to third place, with shipments falling from 46.5 million units in the third quarter of 2020 to 44.3 million units in the same period this year. According to IDC’s data, the 4.6% year-on-year decrease is proof.

According to IDC data, Apple shipped 50.4 million units in the third quarter of this year, compared with 41.7 million units in the same period last year, ranking second. According to reports, its market share has increased significantly from 11.7% in the third quarter of 2020 to 15.2% in the third quarter of 2021. According to reports, Vivo and Oppo shipped 33.3 million and 33.2 million smartphones in the third quarter of 2021, respectively.

Unlike Samsung and Xiaomi, these two original equipment manufacturers have positive annual growth rates. IDC reported that Oppo’s annual growth rate was 6.8%, while Vivo’s annual growth rate in the third quarter of 2021 was 5.8%.
