Samsung recently established a new microsite for Samsung Display, demonstrating the next-generation technology that the company is developing.
The website showcases the company’s rollable, foldable and slidable OLED displays for smartphones, tablets and even laptops.
Now, Samsung seems to be working hard to integrate display technology into smart watches. A new patent first discovered by LetsGoDigital has surfaced on the Internet. The patent reveals a Samsung smart watch equipped with a rollable display and a camera. Mark Peters of LetsGoDigital also posted new pictures in multiple tweets, let us learn more about the patent.
It is said that the 96-page patent was submitted to the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) on June 2, 2021. According to the patent, users can press the crown of the device or use the functions on the touch screen.
Extending the screen of the smart watch will cause the outer frame of the watch to expand. This will allow extra screen space to be rolled up and unfolded within the watch body, causing the screen to expand by as much as 40%. A picture of the patent seems to depict a user watching what appears to be Marvel Thor’s picture on the watch. The telescopic mechanism of the display does not seem to hinder the camera, which may make the device a good choice for tapping selfies anytime, anywhere.
As of now, Samsung has not disclosed any specifications of the rollable display smartwatch. It is important to note that companies often apply for patents that have never actually been realized, so it is best to reserve this information.
