Payal Rohatgi, who will marry Sangram Singh on July 9, has spoken out about adjusting to his new family. Payal and Sangram Singh have been together for 12 years and got engaged in 2014. Sangram’s mother, Payal said, despite her fondness for her, was not pleased to see her son handling household chores.

Payal and Sangram also talked about how they fell in love after spending time together on Survivor India, an adventure show that aired in 2012 and featured 22 contestants who were left on Caramoan Island in the Philippines for 45 days with no amenities.

“I think my family wanted me to marry a simple gaon ki ladki (village girl),” Sangram told ETimes when asked if they faced any parental opposition to their relationship. Payal continued, “That has never been my experience. His sister adores me for who I am. However, there is one snag. Sangram’s mother couldn’t understand why he worked at home, bartan uthata hai, chai banata hai (picks up utensils, makes tea). Aside from that, she likes me.”

She also talked about how she fell in love with him on Survivor, saying, “In Survivor, he drew my attention. That was not a secret. In the sand, we were sleeping next to each other. I used to hold him and sleep because the attraction turned into a bond. If he isn’t next to me, I don’t get enough sleep.”

Payal recently appeared on the captivity-based reality show Lock Upp, where she revealed that she had asked Sangram to marry someone else because she couldn’t conceive a child. Sangram later stated that he would prefer to have a child through adoption or surrogacy. Inside Lock Upp, the wrestler proposed to Payal, and the couple announced their wedding date a few weeks later.

In Ahmedabad or Udaipur, they’ll tie the knot in a low-key destination wedding. Sangram told ETimes that his mother and sister assisted them in deciding on a date, and they are now deciding on a venue.
