The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered Centre and States to withdraw all police complaints against migrant workers who have been booked for violating lockdown norms while attempting to get back home from their work places.
A bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, M R Shah, and V Ramasubramanian also asked Centre/States and UTs to identify migrant workers wanting to go home from a workplace and arrange for their travel. Process for transporting all remaining migrant workers should be complete in 15 days, it said.
SC said Centre/Railways will provide Shramik Special trains to the states and UTs within 24 hours of receiving requests. Centre had said states have requested for 171 trains only for transporting remaining migrant workers to their homes.
SC asked Centre and state governments to give details of welfare schemes which can be availed by migrant workers both for food and basic needs as well as employment.
