SC declines to consider an urgent request to block the distribution of Ajay Devgn’s “Thank God”

The petition challenging the October 25 release of the Ajay Devgn-led film “Thank God” was denied an urgent hearing by the Supreme Court on Wednesday. The case was set for November 21 by the court.

Shri Chitragupta Welfare Trust filed the suit, asking for instructions to have the movie’s trailers and posters taken down from YouTube and other digital distribution channels. Additionally, it asked for a directive to prevent the release of the aforementioned movie in theatres or on OTT services.

The release of the film, according to the appeal submitted through attorney Lokesh Kumar Choudhary, will be a complete breach of Articles 14 and 25 of the Constitution as well as Section 5B of the Cinematograph Act, according to Live Law. According to the statement, “The present Petition arises out of and against derogatory expressions, acts, statements, dialogues, and insulting images and videos in and around the character of God Chitragupta played by Bollywood actor, Ajay Devgan/Respondent No. 4 which is evident from the release of the Bollywood movie ‘Thank God’.”

The Central Board of Film Certification, the film’s director Inder Kumar, producer Bhushan Kumar, and actor Ajay Devgan have reportedly been added as parties to the petition.
