Schools in Delhi and four other states began reopening on Monday after a surge in Covid-19 cases shut them down in December.
Physical education classes for grades 9 to 12 resumed today in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Odisha and Bihar.
In Delhi, Kindergarten to Standard 8 classes will resume on February 14.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has announced that online courses will continue to be offered to students in the capital as well. The center said last week that districts with a positivity rate below 5 percent could reopen schools, but the decision would rest with the state government.
NITI Aayog member (health) V K Paul noted that the pandemic situation has improved and new COVID-19 cases have continued to decline, saying “we are now more confident moving towards reopening schools”.
Considering a third wave of COVID-19 driven by the Omicron variant, schools in Delhi briefly reopened before closing again on December 28 last year.
Delhi reported 1,410 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, with the positivity rate dropping to 2.4%.
