The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Friday began special arrangements to remove biomedical waste from the homes of Covid-19 positive patients under its jurisdiction.
SDMC Mayor Mukesh Suryan said the municipal agency has deployed automatic dumpers in all 104 wards to lift biomedical waste. “These vehicles will collect biomedical waste from the residences of Covid-19 positive patients and bring it to the Okhla Waste-to-Energy Plant for proper disposal. SDMC has also appointed node officers in each area and has issued helpline numbers. …people can call these numbers to collect biomedical waste from their homes,” he said.
Noting that the municipal agency transported nearly 750kg of biomedical waste from all four districts from January 1 to 13 and ensured it was properly disposed of at the Okhla Waste-to-Energy Plant, Suryan also appealed to those living in SDMC areas not to Keep biomedical waste with general waste as it can spread infection. “We have asked families of Covid-19 positive patients to call a helpline number to collect Covid waste from their homes so that it can be disposed of in an appropriate manner,” he said.
