The Indian stock market on Tuesday crossed the 57,000 marks for the first time in the history of BSE Sensex, while the broader NSE Nifty was trading close to 17,000.
For the first time, the Sensex touched a record high of 57,124.78 and the Nifty 50 on the National Stock Exchange reached close to 16,995.55 points. However, the indices have lost the initial gains.
Heavy buying was seen in telecom stocks, while auto and banking stocks saw a fall. The Sensex was trading at 56,937.21 at around 10.00 am, up 47.45 points or 0.08 percent from its previous close of 56,889.76 points.
