Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister, will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to Jaishankar

Sergey Lavrov arrived in India on Thursday after a two-day visit to China. Lavrov is expected to meet S Jaishankar and PM Narendra Modi. This is his first trip to India since Russia launched a ‘special military operation’ on Ukraine. The Russian foreign minister is due to hold talks with both sides.

India may press for ensuring timely delivery of various military hardware to New Delhi. Russian foreign minister’s visit comes hours after Jaishankar held talks with UK counterpart Liz Truss. The two leaders discussed Russia’s war in Ukraine at length and other regional issues.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has held talks with his Chinese counterpart in Kabul. India so far has maintained a neutral position on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Both countries pledged to strengthen bilateral ties during the visit of each other’s foreign ministers last week.

The United States, along with its Western allies have imposed sanctions on Russia for its war in Ukraine. US state department spokesman Ned Price said that they are not seeking to change Russia and India’s ties but seek to ensure international community speak in unison.
