Former union agriculture minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has reacted to claims that he had sought changes in the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Act and pitched for allowing the entry of the private sector in the field.
Pawar today admitted that he had called for reforms in the APMC Act but denied he ever favoured scrapping of the law. The Maharashtra leader slammed the Central government and said claims being made with regard to him are just a ploy to divert attention from the farmers’ nationwide agitation against the newly-enacted farm laws.
